Thanksgiving Sunday

Cut flowers look alive for a few days — but they're already dying, severed from the root. A lot of us live that way. This Thanksgiving: "I am the true vine… abide in me." The fruitful life isn't trying harder to produce — it's staying connected. Come give thanks.

A bouquet of cut flowers looks glorious for a few days — it even opens a new bud or two. But it's a corpse with good timing: severed from the root, blooming on borrowed water, already dying. And a lot of us are trying to live exactly that way — looking alive, running on water we stored up long ago, quietly wondering why we feel like we're wilting. This Thanksgiving Sunday, October 11, our series on the "I Am" sayings of Jesus comes to the vine and the branches: "I am the true vine… abide in me." The secret to a fruitful life — and a grateful one — turns out not to be trying harder to produce, but staying connected to the source. Come give thanks, not as people proud of the harvest, but as branches astonished to be alive. There's a place for you at the table.
